Chemical Free and Gluten/Casein/Peanut Free Facilities

Chemical Free Facility

Holland Center strives to be as safe as possible. This includes eliminating chemicals from the environment that could be harmful to the children.

Our center uses all chemical free, non-toxic and plant base cleaning products. Holland Center also used hydrogen peroxide for cleaning.  We use a hire a professional carpet cleaning company that does not use chemicals, but instead, they use enhanced water that is electrolyzed and oxidized to create a powerful cleaning solution without harmful toxins or chemicals

There are no pesticides or herbicides used on the grounds. All students, staff and visitors are requested to remove their shoes or wear center only shoes at Holland.

The paint used throughout the center is NO VOC paint which is safer and eliminates exposure to volatile organic compounds.  The cove adhesives used are rated green and no voc as well.

The floor on the main level is marmoleum.  Marmoleum is a non-toxic, anti-bacterial flooring.  The upper level is carpet that has been in the building for years and is completely outgassed.

The work space tables and kitchen tables are untreated lumber with a water based finish. Wood or metal is chosen whenever possible for center needs. We strive to lessen any plastic especially soft plastics which can be toxic.  New furniture that is purchased for Holland is always eco-friendly and green guard ( approved for indoor air quality emissions.  We strive to be compliant with European Union standards of safety.

Staff are asked to refrain from wearing scented products such as perfume, lotions and shampoos.

The playground is a "Rainbow Playset" built with Redwood. This wood is untreated lumber and is therefore safer for our kids.

Gluten Free/Casein Free/Peanut/Artificial Color Free Environment

The benefits of dietary intervention have been proven and supported by researchers in the autism community. We've provided links below for convenience on education of the GF/CF diet.

For the benefit of the students Holland Center is a gluten and casein free facility. Many children with autism have been found to have insufficient amounts of the DPPIV enzyme that breaks down the gluten and casein molecules.

We are also a peanut free facility for our kids with a peanut allergy.  Peanuts are not allowed in the entire center by children or staff.

We no longer permit artificial food coloring dyes in any items at the center, including fruit snacks, gummies, candies, drinks, and other foods.  These dyes are banned in many other countries, but are unfortunately permitted in the US.  These dyes have been linked to hyperactivity, hypersensitivity, behavior issues and tumors. More information about the effect of food dyes can be found at

Each child has lunch and snacks made specifically to the specification of the child's diet.  We will work to make sure your child eats and performs to their best during their day.

Our therapist are trained to understand the dietary interventions and help parents comply to the center's expectations. Our therapists also understand the need for vitamin and mineral supplementation in most of the children.

Therapists have also been trained to administer medications to the children who have daily medication needs.

We have compiled a list of Gluten Free/Casein Free products that the children at the center seem to enjoy:
